My kitchen

My workspace is essentially an old pig sty. It was converted into a small kitchen and living are when my parents and I moved from London to Holloway in Derbyshire. They wanted a space for guests to stay and to host outdoor parties (as the house didn’t have a spare bedroom). How delightfully middle class!

Anyway, the space was converted and used as they wished for a number of years until I ventured into the world of business and at 15 started making cakes for an online service for people in the local area. I had the place inspected by environmental health and away I went.

This isn’t where I started Petit Pithivier but it of course had a huge impact on deciding to try again at the business venture. I did move away and train/work at restaurants/cafes and other kitchen work but have since moved back to Holloway and as I’m sure all of you have figured out by now, life is unexpected and it goes on.

I now live next door in my Grandma’s old house, using the same kitchen space I did as a teenager. It’s moved on much more since then, as I now have far more equipment and storage space including a stainless steel counter top, an extra fridge, a chocolate tempering machine (which I must use) and a kenwood food processor. There is much much more than this but I digress and won’t detail every single thing. Unless of course you want to hear it! Let me know! I would be more than happy to write a blog about my favourite pieces of kitchen equipment and what to buy to get started in this field.

After having worked in a number of different kitchens, I can safely say that this space is perfect for me at the moment and considerably larger than some restaurants pastry sections! I have worked in some places where having two people in the room was two too many…

I have been planning to write blogs for a while now and hope I will manage one a month with much much more content than I usually do. I’m learning more about how online and social media presence works. Fingers crossed it all goes to plan. I hope you enjoyed this brief look into where I work.
